Getting involved in your local politics is simple and rewarding! Not only do you gain knowledge of the happenings in your community, but you also make connections and a difference as well!

Research is crucial when it comes to knowing who represents you.

Do your research:
Looking into who is currently running your local government is a very good start when getting into politics. Research is crucial when it comes to knowing who represents you. Like when it comes to making important life choices, choosing who you elect as your representative is a very important decision because it can drastically affect your life.

Register to Vote:
As long as you are a citizen, a legal resident of your area, and are of voting age, you are eligible to vote in elections in your local area where you live. To register to vote there are a few places and ways you can go to go about doing so:
‣ Register online here
‣ Go to your state or local election office
‣ Go to the department of motor vehicles

Think about Joining a political party, if you wish:
"You are not required to declare a party preference. Applicants who fail to designate a political party affiliation will be registered without party affiliation; however, Florida is a closed primary state. In a primary election, voters may only vote for candidates in their party. By not selecting a party, you limit your vote in the primaries to only non-partisan candidates and issues." - Learn more.

There is no better way to understand how the way the inner workings of your local government develop than to attend the meetings that take place. Volunteer to help a campaign:
After doing your research on those who are running in your local government, if possible volunteer to help a candidate that you want on a ballot or in office. Ways you can help are by supporting events, making phone calls, and more. Not only is this a great opportunity to get to know your community, but it is also a great experience, and you get to learn about your local government firsthand.

Join a local party organization:
Working for a party organization can be beneficial both by giving you experience and knowledge of what is happening politically in your area, but also by helping whatever organization supports what you want for your community!

Become a poll worker:
What better way to get activated in an election than to become a poll worker. Poll workers are individuals who work at the polling places on Election Day. The credentials of becoming a poll worker in Pasco County are being a resident and being a registered voter in the county and having some internet access for training purposes. There are a few different positions available as well.

Reach out to your representatives:
Whether your representatives are doing a good or bad job, letting them know what you feel is crucial to making sure that you as a citizen are holding that representative accountable, or making sure they know what you as a tax-paying citizen are paying attention. If that representative deserves it, go ahead and donate to their cause! Some ways you can reach out to them are by mail, email, social media, or visit their office if they are there.

Make your voice heard:
The most important way for your voice to be heard is to go out and vote, not only in the presidential election but in your local elections as well. Make sure you set your schedule up so you can do so accordingly.
